We are excited to be partnering with a few of our favorite parks across North and South Carolina to bring you a one of a kind CEU experience! Join Barrs Rec in November for lunch, a new CEU, and a walk through of the playspace complete with insight from the Park and Rec Director responsible for the site as well as the Barrs representative who created the park design.

About the Course
This CEU explores how play, universal design and outdoor fitness trends are shaping inclusive, engaging and high-performing community spaces. Learn how adventure, inclusion, awe, equity and active design are transforming parks and outdoor recreation.  Discover strategies that improve outcomes for people and places. This CEU is approved for 1.0 AIA LU/HSW and 1.0 LA CES PDH credits

About the Parks
Jackson Park was completed in 2023 led by Ashley Barrs. Colorful, fun, inclusive and creative are a few words to describe this intergenerational community space! Play areas for children of all ages and abilities offer so many options and are connected by ramps and walkways that allow visitors to explore the space however they choose and create their own pathways to play. INVIGORATE® Dynamic Fitness will keep the 13+ population moving and active, while still able to engage and supervise the kids. A true community space that has everything? This is it.

Timrod Park was completed in 2024 led by representative Johnny Davis. The playground is part of a larger 18 acre facility that includes various sport courts and community gathering spots. The playground consists of two structures, a 2-5 and 5-12 along with multi-generational freestanding play, playful benches, and swings! The 5-12 structure features Burke’s Nucleus Tower with the core arch climber and the inclusive 360 loop. Natural shade surrounds the play area keeping users cool, even on the warmest days!

Holding park was completed in 2024 and was led by April McLaurin. This park is a state of the art universally accessible playspace. This park features play for all ages, complete with intergenerational play such as music, the MOVMNT, and multi-user swings. The 5-12 structure features double wide ramps throughout the entire structure to ensure users utilizing mobility devices can explore the entire structure and pass side by side! The 2-5 structure features a roller slide that is cochlear implant friendly.Freestanding inclusive play is incorporated throughout the park along with shaded seating for caregivers.
